Treatment Plan for Discoveries
This section identifies a standardized set of treatment procedures that will be
implemented to expedite the evaluation, review, and recommendation process for
discovery situations. Except for unusual circumstances, the discovery situations will
entail the identification of cultural resources that have been exposed during construction.
All of the discoveries should be subsurface phenomena capped by variable amounts of
overlying sediments.
Although the full range of potential discoveries cannot be anticipated, previous research
in the project area can be used as a measure of the type of cultural resources that are most
likely to be encountered in discovery situations. Anticipated discovery situations include
the exposure of prehistoric and historic cultural deposits, features, structures, and human
