Subject:
Bull Hill Mine and Upton Plant Site Noise Evaluation
Dear Mr. Bergstrom:
The following report describes the Bull Hill Mine and Upton Plant Site noise evaluation
study consisting of 16 different monitoring locations recording the ambient sound levels for a total of 24
consecutive hours. The logged sound level data measurements range from Thursday, October 4, to
Friday, October 5, 2012, to measure and document the ambient sound levels. The following report
documents our findings and establishes the hourly average sound levels as well as the 24-hour ambient
sound levels at each monitoring location.
Site Location and Conditions
The proposed Upton Plant Site is located off of Buffalo Creek Road approximately half a
mile southwest of U.S. Highway 16 in Upton, Wyoming. Measurement Locations 1 through 4 are
identified in Attachment 1 located south and southwest of Highway 16 and northwest of Highway 116
near Upton. Location 1 was at the nearest residential property to the site.
The proposed Bull Hill Mine is located approximately 7 miles north of the town of
Sundance, Wyoming. Measurement Locations 5 through 8 were within the mine’s permit boundary and
are identified in Attachment 2. These locations are located north and east of County Road 100.
Measurement locations 9 through 16 are identified in Attachment 3 and are located off Sundance-Miller
Creek Road and Sundance-Warren Peak County Road. Location 9 was at Reuter Camp Ground.
Locations 10 through 16 were place near to residences on the two roads. The measurements near
residences were located at within the road right-of-way as close as possible to the property line of the
residences.
Sound Measurement Instrumentation
A total of 3 different models of Type I and II sound level meters were used for the
survey, Bruel & Kjaer 2250 and 2238 Integrating and Logging Sound Level Meters and Quest
Technologies DL-2 Logging Sound Level Meters. The meters were programmed, calibrated, and
deployed for duration of 24-hours. The metering systems were installed approximately 5 feet above
ground level.
